From 2005-2015, the U.S. Census Bureau had been collecting data on U.S. metro area export markets based on the United States Principal Party in Interest (USPPI) zip codes. When the U.S. seller is ready to export, they file as a USSPI in the “Automated Export System (AES)” online database. Based on the USPPI report, the Census Bureau is able to identify the top five metropolitan export markets (ranked by export value): (1) Houston-The Woodlands-Sugarland, Texas; (2) New York-Newark-New Jersey City, New York, New Jersey; and (3) Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Washington.
