The efforts of those who contribute significantly to growing U.S. exports do not go unrecognized. On an annual basis, the U.S. Department of Commerce presents two awards: the President’s “E” Award for Exports and Export Service and the President’s “E Star” Award for Exports and Export Service. Applicants must apply to be considered for these highly prestigious awards, and there are a limited number of winners in each category each year.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce:
“The President's “E” Award was created by Executive Order of the President to recognize to persons, firms or organizations which contribute significantly in the effort to increase U.S. exports. The President's “E Star” Award, which was authorized by the Secretary of Commerce, affords continuing recognition of noteworthy export promotion efforts. Winners of the “E” and “E Star” Awards are authorized to fly the blue and white banner, to display the accompanying certificate of commendation, which is signed by the Secretary of Commerce in the name and by the authority of the President, to wear and issue to employees an “E” or “E Star” lapel pin, and to refer to the award in their advertising.”
Both awards have existed since the 1960’s – the President’s “E” Award originated in 1961 and the President’s “E Star” award in 1969. Several EXIM employees, prior to joining the agency, received these awards during their private-sector experience.
The most recent annual Presidential Awards for Export Achievements ceremony was held in Washington, D.C. in early June 2023. Among this year’s award winners are one current and several former EXIM Export Credit Insurance customers as well as a current EXIM Regional Export Promotion Program (REPP) member, the Illinois SBDC International Trade Center at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Unrelated to the Presidential Awards for Export Achievements, EXIM honors U.S. exporter customers through its Exporter of the Year awards – all award winners have advanced the agency’s mission of supporting American jobs by facilitating U.S. exports. In December 2022, there were 8 award winners which were announced during EXIM’s most recent Annual Conference. Other EXIM awards include Broker of the Year, Lender of the Year, Regional Export Promotion Program Member of the Year, Deal of the Year, and Sub-Saharan Africa Deal of the Year.
