If U.S. exporters are looking for customers in other countries, their first stop should be the U.S. Commercial Service. The U.S. Commercial Service operates in U.S. Embassies and Consulates in nearly 80 countries around the world.
The U.S. Commercial Service can help you:
- Locate U.S. products, services and business partners;
- Meet suppliers and partners face-to-face; and
- Participate in trade shows that feature thousands of U.S. companies.
For example, if a U.S. exporter wants to find buyers in India, the Commercial Service can connect international firms through their Gold Key Program. The Commercial Service also hosts a series of International Trade Events that connect foreign buyers to U.S. companies showcasing their products and services at trade shows. Through their business matchmaking service, they can help arrange face-to-face or video conference appointments with pre-screened U.S. suppliers.
Additionally, through their International Buyer Program, they can arrange foreign buyers to come to major U.S. industry trade shows to meet pre-screened U.S. suppliers and provide travel logistics and on-site business counseling support.
Once the U.S. exporters find those customers in other countries, EXIM Bank can insure those transactions. Many EXIM regional offices are co-located with the U.S. Commercial Service branches.
EXIM Bank and the U.S. Commercial Service work closely to promote the export of U.S. products and services. “The (U.S. Commercial Service) is very valuable,” says Jennifer Simpson, EXIM Bank Regional Director, “Every handful of years, their Foreign Service Officers take a two-year stint in the United States and this is the time that we meet them before they go abroad again – it's a great time to build relationships through our regional offices.”
