Since 1983, the third Monday of January has been recognized as Marin Luther King Jr Day, where we take a moment to honor his contributions to our county. Dr. King is widely known for his nonviolent civil rights leadership and the historic ‘I Have a Dream’ speech at the Lincoln Memorial. His actions are synonymous with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and his legacy as a civil rights icon.
The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) honors Dr. King and other leaders in part through our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. More than 10 million businesses across the country are minority-or-woman-owned and often face additional challenges when growing their businesses. Equity is a priority for EXIM – we proudly serve diverse business communities with a dedicated team of specialists who work with minority, women, veteran, and disabled-owned businesses (MWOBs) to help them access EXIM financing and navigate the next step on their exporting journey. The MWOB team has established long-standing partnerships with organizations that have a minority trade focus and are dedicated to working with the agency to educate and raise awareness about its opportunities for businesses in underserved communities.
Dr. King had many memorable and inspirational quotes throughout his lifetime, the following is an example that many businesses can relate to:
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
